World Greatest Telescopes | |
Telescopes come in different shapes and sizes. A lot of them are quite small and mainly for private use only as they are not very powerful. On the other hand, scientific telescopes have different dimensions. Some of them are on Earth and pointed to the sky, but some of them are in the open space to get a better view of everything that is surrounding our Mother Earth.
One of the world’s greatest telescopes is the Hubble Space Telescope that is in orbit around the Earth. That telescope was named after an astronomer Edwin Hubble, who discovered a galaxy outside the Milky Way. It was launched in 1990 and it has become one of the most important tools in the history of astronomy as it is able take sharp images of very dim objects. It has been the reason of making many extraordinary discoveries and helped to develop the science of astronomy enormously. But the future for one of the world’s greatest telescopes is uncertain as some repair works have to be done on it an NASA scientist have not reached an agreement how to do them. The main camera has shut down many times already this year and from Earth it is impossible to repair them.
Some of other world’s greatest telescopes are with NASA research centers or in various observatories around the world. They are also huge, but the work done with them cannot be compared to the Hubble Space Telescope.
